This is a final-year project from an associate degree student.

An interactive FMV detective game about three deceased livestreamers, buried secrets, and the person looking back at you through the screen.

The Story

You receive an email requesting information about three deceased livestreamers.

As you dig through their clips, you start uncovering pieces of your own past — and slowly realise that "you" may not be on your side.

High Concept

You are a detective investigating the deaths of three livestreamers. Through their archived videos, keywords, and branching choices, you piece together what happened… while discovering that the person watching may also be part of the story.

About the Game

T.H.E.M. is an interactive movie / FMV experience that explores death, performance, and the relationship between streamers and their audience. Using a nostalgic pseudo-realistic style, the game blends psychological tension with the feeling of scrolling through old live archives late at night.

Players explore different death stories inspired by real-world phenomena, uncovering how negative entertainment, verbal aggression, and the pressure of being watched can push people to the edge — and how a single choice (or a single word) can matter.

Genre: Interactive Movie / FMV

Session Length: 2+ hours

Languages: Cantonese (videos) · Chinese · English

Core Gameplay

- Watch livestream clips and make choices that branch into different videos

- Collect and search keywords to unlock new footage

- Hidden scores track your decisions — certain paths can lead to character deaths or the bad ending

- Progress through multiple characters’ stories until you reach the final confrontation

- Two short minigames appear near the climax

The more carefully you search and the more deliberately you choose, the deeper you go.

Themes

Humans are two-faced — sometimes multi-faceted.

People are more fragile than we imagine, yet stronger too, or both at once.

A single word can sway their will to live, yet never fully erase their resolve.

In today’s virtual world we project ourselves online, where every action and emotion gets amplified. We love being spectators… but when the same situation faces *you*, what choice would you make?

Aren’t you just like those you once “controlled”?

Controls

- Left Click — Interact / Choose

- Escape — Pause

- Minigame 1 — WASD

- Minigame 2 — WASD + Shift to run

I cry. That Nana Legend really takes me back to when I first heard of it. It's such a sad situations. Same for other people like Karan, Henry. I hope more people experience this amazing project. Also, RIP Nana.

I was shocked to see a real case, Roro-chan, whom Nana referenced during my final-year project research. A 14-year-old kid killed herself on a live stream, maybe just to seek attention. So I want her (their) case to serve as a warning, pay more attention to the people around us and the phenomenon of people being prone to malicious comments online. By the way, thanks for playing!

I agree, I totally forgot her name in that moment but it's just a sad state of life situation she was in. In a lot of speculations, she does have some sort of need help in her mental state. The fact that we know a small tad bit of how her mom acts with her but no sense of where her dad whereabout is. We can assume her life at home is not healthy, and for her to seek out on the online for some sort of friendship, comfort, or whatever else reason it could be, when she's in that mental stability is not.....helping her. We know how online can be the death of your own life or the most support you ever felt. It's such a sad thing for it to exist and let alone to happened to a 14 years old..... She receive no help, no support, and no friends in her personal life. :'((
